B2 alongside a full-time job: one learner's 22 months 💼
A learner who moved to Germany reached B2 (telc) in about 22 months, 15 of them while working full-time. What they did: Structure · Started with self-study and an online intensive course before moving. · In Germany: evening group classes, about 3 hours a week. · Skipped levels when bored: A2 straight to B1, then B1 to B2. · Later switched to one-to-one lessons for more speaking time and exam practice. Daily habits · 1–4 hours of German podcasts and media a day, while commuting, exercising or cooking. · Grammar tables (pronouns, articles, adjective endings) as phone wallpaper, for quick checks mid-conversation. · Using German for real tasks: cafés, shopping, bike repair, doctor, visa renewal. What they say mattered most · German friends: practice became conversation, not homework. · A fixed exam date gave the plan a deadline. · Explaining grammar to others (they wrote blog posts) made it stick. Another guide for working learners suggests about one hour a day plus a bit at weekends, and warns that weekend-only learning is slower. Pick a goal you can keep.
