DTZ reading: skip, come back, keep moving 📖
DTZ Lesen has five parts and 25 questions in 45 minutes, with texts from everyday life: adverts, notices, letters, brochures. What learners report: · Some texts feel harder than the course book. One learner found certain passages really difficult on the day. · Time runs out when you try to understand every word. Their tactics: · Start with the parts that feel easy and come back to the difficult ones. · Skip words you don't know. Understanding the structure (who writes, to whom, why) is often enough. · For matching tasks (situations to adverts), cross out the options you have used. · Look for small words that change the meaning: nicht, kein, nur, erst, schon. · Never leave a question empty. A guess can score; an empty answer never does. Practise with real texts from your own life: letters from the landlord, school notes, flyers in your letterbox. They are free and very close to the exam topics. Hören and Lesen are scored together (B1 = 33–45 points out of 45), so a strong reading score can help if listening is your weak side.
