DTZ speaking: say why, not only what 💬
A common piece of advice from teachers who prepare people for the DTZ: many candidates describe what they do, but never say why. That is often the difference between an A2 and a B1 answer. Example topic: shopping. Three things that lift an answer: 1. A reason: weil, denn, deshalb, da 2. A comparison: with your home country, or with how it was before 3. The past: Perfekt ("Ich habe früher … gemacht") shows you can do more than the present tense Learners who practised this way say it also helps with nerves: you always have something to add. If you run out of ideas, go to one of the three: why? how is it at home? how was it before? A simple drill: pick one everyday topic per day (living, work, doctor, children, free time) and speak for one minute using weil, früher and in meinem Heimatland at least once each. Record it and listen back. Sources: https://blog.learngermanfast.de/dtz-prufungsvorbereitung/ · https://deutsch-vorbereitung.com/en/17-blog-artikel.html
