Where does the verb go? The two rules that fix most sentences ↔️
Guides for learners keep coming back to verb position: it is easy to get wrong in B1 writing. Two rules cover most of it. Rule 1: main clause, verb in position 2 · Ich bleibe heute zu Hause. · Heute bleibe ich zu Hause. (Something else first? The verb still stays second.) Rule 2: after weil, dass, wenn, obwohl, als, ob → verb at the end · Ich bleibe zu Hause, weil ich krank bin. · Ich glaube, dass er keine Zeit hat. The details learners forget · Modal verb: the modal goes last. "…, dass er heute arbeiten muss." · Perfekt: participle, then auxiliary. "…, weil sie krank geworden ist." · Separable verbs join again. "…, weil ich früh aufstehe." A trick for the exam After writing, find every weil/dass/wenn in your text and check the last word of that clause. It takes one minute. Practice idea from a guide for working learners: write short emails in German and use a correction tool, but pay attention to the verb position and endings it corrects. Then write the sentence again yourself. Sources: https://www.verbpal.com/blog/german-verb-position-subordinate-clause/ · https://handpickedberlin.com/how-to-learn-german-while-working-full-time/
