A2 for the multi-year card: a DELF A2 lasts for life 🪪
Since 2026, a first carte de séjour pluriannuelle requires French at A2 level. You can prove it with a TCF or TEF (valid 2 years), a DELF A2 or higher (no time limit), or certain French diplomas. Renewing a card at the same level does not require testing again. Why many people choose the DELF A2: · No expiry, so it can serve for later steps at the same level. · A clear pass/fail, recognised everywhere in France. What to plan: · DELF sessions are less frequent than TCF/TEF. Look up centres and dates early. · The civic exam is also needed for this card. Book it in parallel. · People exempt according to the préfectures include applicants over 65 and those with a medical certificate showing a disability or chronic condition that makes the test impossible. Check your own case. If you already have close to B1, consider aiming directly for DELF B1: it covers the multi-year card and the resident card later.
