B2 for naturalisation: oral AND written, plan for it 🇫🇷
For French nationality, service-public now requires level B2 in both oral and written French. Accepted proofs include a diploma showing B2 (such as the DELF B2), a TCF or TEF attestation issued less than 2 years earlier, or certain French diplomas (brevet, diplomas at RNCP level 3 or higher). What learners say about B2: · The step from B1 to B2 is bigger than it looks. B2 means arguing, nuancing and writing a structured text of some length. · Writing is often the weak point for people who speak well at work. A realistic plan from B1: · Read one opinion article in French every day and summarise it in five sentences. · Learn argument connectors: cependant, en revanche, d'une part… d'autre part, par conséquent, bien que + subjonctif. · Write one argued text per week and get it corrected. · Speak on debate topics for 10 minutes, twice a week. DELF B2 has no expiry, which is useful because naturalisation files can take long to prepare. The civic exam is also required, in its naturalisation version.
