When French people switch to English: keep going in French đź’¬
A common complaint on expat forums: 'I try to speak French and people answer in English.' It is usually meant to help, but it slows your progress before an oral exam. What learners do: · Say kindly that you are practising: 'Je préfère parler français, j'apprends pour un examen.' Most people are happy to continue. · Choose places where French is the only option: local markets, small shops, associations, sports clubs. · Join a conversation group at the médiathèque or a language exchange. · Volunteer: many associations welcome help and speak only French. About mistakes: examiners at A2 and B1 expect errors. What matters is that you communicate, react and keep going. Hesitating in silence costs more than a wrong article. A tip for the exam: prepare a few 'survival' phrases to gain time: 'C'est une bonne question…', 'Laissez-moi réfléchir…', 'Si j'ai bien compris, vous voulez dire que…'. Confidence comes from repetition. Aim for one real conversation in French every day. Sources: https://easyfrancenow.com/blog/how-to-prepare-tcf-irn
