Naturalisation file: the steps in order đź“‚
Naturalisation by decree is a long procedure. Service-public describes the main conditions and steps. In order: 1. Check residence: in general at least 5 years in France, with shorter periods in specific cases. 2. Get your French level proof: B2 oral and written (DELF B2, TCF/TEF less than 2 years old, or a French diploma). 3. Pass the examen civique (naturalisation version) and keep the attestation. 4. Gather documents: birth certificate (translated if foreign), identity, proof of residence and income, among others. 5. Pay the 255 euro timbre fiscal and apply online. 6. Attend the interview at the préfecture about your integration and the values of the Republic. 7. Wait: the administration has up to 18 months to decide (12 months if you have lived in France for 10 years or more), extendable once by 3 months. Tip from applicants: order civil-status documents and translations early. They are often the slowest part, much slower than the language test.
