TCF IRN in one page: four parts, one level per skill 📝
The TCF IRN (intégration, résidence, nationalité) is the TCF version made for residence cards and naturalisation. It is not pass/fail: you receive a level, and the préfecture checks whether that level matches what your application needs (A2 multi-year card, B1 resident card, B2 naturalisation). As described by a university test centre: · Compréhension orale: 25 multiple-choice questions, 20 minutes · Compréhension écrite: 25 multiple-choice questions, 35 minutes · Expression écrite: 3 tasks, 30 minutes · Expression orale: 3 tasks, 10 minutes, face to face with an examiner Total about 1 h 35. The same centre announced results in about 15 working days. What learners wish they had known: · The multiple-choice parts get harder as you go. Don't panic when the last questions feel difficult, that is by design. · The speaking part is short. Ten minutes pass fast, so practise starting to speak right away. · Formats can differ slightly between centres (paper or computer). Ask your centre. The attestation is valid for 2 years, so time the test close to your application.
