TCF writing: three short texts, three different registers ✍️
The expression écrite of the TCF IRN gives you 30 minutes for three tasks. Teachers describe them as growing in length and difficulty: a short practical message, a longer text telling about an experience or event, and a text where you give your opinion. Tips from teachers and learners: · Read each instruction twice. Losing points because you wrote to a friend in a formal tone (or the other way round) is very common. · Check the expected word count and stay close to it. Much too short loses content points. · Use tu or vous consistently in each text. · For the opinion text, a simple frame works: your position, two arguments with an example each, a short conclusion. · Leave 3 minutes to reread: agreements (-e, -s), past participles, accents on common words. Training idea: write one short message and one opinion paragraph per day on everyday themes (neighbours, transport, work, school, health services). Ask a teacher or a French speaker to underline, not correct, your errors, then fix them yourself. The written and spoken parts are what move most people from A2 to B1 or from B1 to B2.
