Make better flashcards: both directions, article, picture ðŸ§
Flashcards are one of the most-mentioned tools in learner stories. But how you make them matters. Tips that come back often: · Both directions: Dutch → your language and your language → Dutch. Recognising a word is easier than producing it; the exam needs both. · Always put the article on the card: "de tafel", "het huis". · Use pictures instead of translations when you can. One learner used an app that links words to images and built more than 1,500 cards in a few weeks. · Make it memorable: a learner who used memory techniques created strange mental pictures for each word, for example connecting "paard" (horse) to something absurd. · Add a short example sentence, preferably one you might use in the exam. What people warn about: · Apps alone can feel like a game without real use. Combine cards with reading and speaking. · Too many new cards per day leads to a big pile of reviews and then giving up. Start small. Five to ten minutes a day was enough for several learners to build a large vocabulary over a few months.
