The dictionary is allowed — but it can eat your time 📕
In the Staatsexamen Nt2 you may use the Van Dale Pocketwoordenboek NT2 during Lezen and Schrijven (source: staatsexamensnt2.nl). Learners who took the exam agree it is useful, and also that it is a trap if you use it too often. What learners report: · In reading, looking up many words costs minutes you need for the last texts. · You often don't need every word: the answer usually depends on a few key sentences. · In writing, the dictionary is most useful for checking de/het, plurals and irregular verb forms, not for finding new fancy words. A simple rule you can practise: · Reading: only look up a word if the question depends on it and you can't guess it from context. Max. a handful per text. · Writing: write first, then use the dictionary in your check round for words you are unsure about. Practise with the same dictionary before the exam so you know where things are. One learner said it helped to know the layout in advance, so a look-up takes seconds, not minutes.
