Why shorter answers often score better ✂️
Many learners go into the exam thinking "the more I say, the better". Several people who passed say the opposite helped them. Why long answers can hurt: · Every extra sentence is another chance for a word-order or verb mistake. · You run out of time on later tasks. · Long answers drift away from the actual question. One learner described their biggest weakness as overcomplicating: giving lots of detail where a short, direct answer was needed. Another noticed that in the speaking exam many candidates spent too long on the easy early tasks. A workable approach: · Short tasks: one or two clear sentences that answer exactly what was asked. · Longer tasks: cover each point in the instruction, add one reason or example, then stop. · Use sentences you are sure of. Save experiments for practice. Not everyone agrees completely. Some learners say at B1/B2 you still need to show a range of structures, so "short" should not mean "only main clauses". The balance: complete and correct first, a little variety second.
