Computer speaking exam: the timer decides, not you ⏱️
In the Staatsexamen Spreken the computer controls the time. You hear a signal to start and to stop, and you can only hear each prompt once (staatsexamensnt2.nl). Programma I has 16 tasks (short and medium), Programma II has 13, including one long task. What learners experienced: · The long tasks (around two minutes) felt the hardest; several people ran out of things to say. · One candidate noted that what you say after the end signal does not count. · Others found themselves still thinking when the recording already started. How to prepare: · Practise with a timer that beeps: 30 seconds for short answers, 2 minutes for long ones. · For long tasks, plan 3 or 4 points in the preparation time and give each point about the same time. · If you finish early, add one example or a short conclusion instead of stopping in silence. · If you get stuck, say a short filler and continue with your next point. Record your practice answers. Listen once for content (did I cover everything?) and once for timing.
