# DTZ 2026: registration, cost, results and how B1 is scored > The DTZ is the final exam of the integration course. Your course provider sets the date (usually at the end of the course) and registers you at least 3 weeks before; with an integration course entitlement BAMF pays the first attempt and one retake. The result is A2 or B1; it reaches BAMF about 2.5 weeks after the test and your certificate then goes to your test centre. Last checked: 2026-09-29 · Every fact links to its official source; the official source always prevails. ## Key facts - **Who takes it:** Integration course participants; it ends the 600-hour language course ([Source](https://www.bamf.de/DE/Themen/Integration/ZugewanderteTeilnehmende/Integrationskurse/InhaltAblauf/inhaltablauf-node.html)) - **Registration:** Through your course provider (Prüfstelle), at least 3 weeks before the exam ([Source](https://www.gast.de/de/forschung-entwicklung/entwicklung/auftraege/deutsch-test-fuer-zuwanderer-dtz/faq)) - **Cost:** With an entitlement BAMF pays the first attempt and one retake; a self-payer price is not published ([Source](https://www.gast.de/de/forschung-entwicklung/entwicklung/auftraege/deutsch-test-fuer-zuwanderer-dtz/faq)) - **Parts:** Hören, Lesen, Schreiben (written, 100 min) + Sprechen (about 16 min) ([Source](https://www.gast.de/de/forschung-entwicklung/entwicklung/auftraege/deutsch-test-fuer-zuwanderer-dtz/der-dtz-auf-einen-blick)) - **B1 rule:** B1 in Sprechen plus B1 in Hören/Lesen or in Schreiben ([Source](https://www.bamf.de/DE/Themen/Integration/ZugewanderteTeilnehmende/Integrationskurse/Abschlusspruefung/abschlusspruefung-node.html)) - **Result:** To BAMF about 2.5 weeks after the test; certificate then to your test centre ([Source](https://www.gast.de/de/forschung-entwicklung/entwicklung/auftraege/deutsch-test-fuer-zuwanderer-dtz/faq)) - **Retake:** As often as you want, always the whole test ([Source](https://www.gast.de/de/forschung-entwicklung/entwicklung/auftraege/deutsch-test-fuer-zuwanderer-dtz/faq)) ## Steps 1. **Join an integration course** The DTZ ends the 600-hour language part of the integration course. Your provider is an authorised test centre or works with one. ([Source](https://www.bamf.de/DE/Themen/Integration/ZugewanderteTeilnehmende/Integrationskurse/InhaltAblauf/inhaltablauf-node.html)) 2. **Get your date** There are no national dates. The provider sets the exam date, usually at the end of your course, and registers you at least 3 weeks before. Ask early if you want a specific date. ([Source](https://www.gast.de/de/forschung-entwicklung/entwicklung/auftraege/deutsch-test-fuer-zuwanderer-dtz/faq)) 3. **Practise the format** Do one full written set (Hören, Lesen, Schreiben) in 100 minutes and practise speaking with a partner: introduce yourself, describe a picture, plan something together. Without Sprechen at the level there is no A2 or B1. ([Source](https://www.gast.de/de/forschung-entwicklung/entwicklung/auftraege/deutsch-test-fuer-zuwanderer-dtz/der-dtz-auf-einen-blick)) 4. **Result and certificate** g.a.s.t. sends the results to BAMF about 2.5 weeks after the test; after BAMF’s check your certificate or result sheet goes to your test centre. DTZ B1 plus a passed “Leben in Deutschland” gives the Zertifikat Integrationskurs. ([Source](https://www.gast.de/de/forschung-entwicklung/entwicklung/auftraege/deutsch-test-fuer-zuwanderer-dtz/faq)) 5. **Retake if needed** You can retake as often as you want, but always the whole test. BAMF pays one retake for course participants. ([Source](https://www.gast.de/de/forschung-entwicklung/entwicklung/auftraege/deutsch-test-fuer-zuwanderer-dtz/faq)) ## How do I register for the DTZ? Through your integration course provider (Prüfstelle). It sets the date and registers you at least 3 weeks before the exam. ([Source](https://www.gast.de/de/forschung-entwicklung/entwicklung/auftraege/deutsch-test-fuer-zuwanderer-dtz/faq)) ## What does the DTZ cost? With an integration course entitlement BAMF pays the first attempt and one retake. The course itself usually costs €2.29 per lesson hour unless you are exempt. A self-payer exam price is not published; ask a test centre. ([Source](https://www.gast.de/de/forschung-entwicklung/entwicklung/auftraege/deutsch-test-fuer-zuwanderer-dtz/faq)) ## When do I reach B1 in the DTZ? You need B1 in Sprechen plus B1 in either Hören/Lesen or Schreiben. Otherwise the result is A2, or a result sheet below A2. ([Source](https://www.bamf.de/DE/Themen/Integration/ZugewanderteTeilnehmende/Integrationskurse/Abschlusspruefung/abschlusspruefung-node.html)) ## How long does the DTZ result take? g.a.s.t. sends results to BAMF about 2.5 weeks after the test. After BAMF’s check the certificate goes to your test centre, which gives it to you. ([Source](https://www.gast.de/de/forschung-entwicklung/entwicklung/auftraege/deutsch-test-fuer-zuwanderer-dtz/faq)) ## Can I retake only one part? No. You can retake as often as you want, but always the whole test (written and oral). ([Source](https://www.gast.de/de/forschung-entwicklung/entwicklung/auftraege/deutsch-test-fuer-zuwanderer-dtz/faq)) ## Is the DTZ B1 enough for naturalisation? B1 German is the language requirement for naturalisation, and the integration course can count as proof. Ask your Einbürgerungsbehörde which certificate it accepts.
