Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg was an army officer who set off a bomb at Hitler's headquarters on 20 July 1944 to kill Hitler and overthrow the Nazi regime. Hitler survived and Stauffenberg was shot that same night; he is a symbol of the resistance.
